Members and returning non-members, please register by April 1st to guarantee your spot(s). All new non-members may register after April 1st.
• Session 1: June 25-July 20th
• Session 2: July 23rd - August 17th
• Racing classes are 8 weeks long
• Monday Night Learn to Race off the dock - Kids and parents, come down from 4:30-7:30 and learn to race off the dock. Parents are encouraged to go sailing with their kids or just hang out on the dock and watch! A CYC Intstructor will run races from the dock. Additional junior sailing instructors will be on hand to help out and sail with kids who just want to go sailing. The evening will end at 7 pm with hot dogs and watermelon under the Gazebo. Parent volunteers and expert hot dog grill masters are always welcome! This will take place every Monday night, beginning June 25th and ending August 13th.
Important Dates for 2012:
- June 19-22 - Pre-season classes
- June 22-24 - 420 Racing Clinic. Attendees will also receive coaching on June 26th at the Sail Newport Youth Challenge Regatta.
- June 22- Meet the Instructor & Parent Opti clinic, 5:30-6:30
- June 25 - Session 1 begins. Additionally, the America's Cup World Series will be in town and hosting many events for kids at Fort Adams throughout the day. Once the full schedule is posted and activities are known, we may try and have a field trip to Sail Newport if the activities offered are relevant.
- June 26 - Sail Newport's Youth Challenge regatta - Any CYC sailors wishing to attend, please let Meg know before the start of the program if possible. This is the first day of class for most kids and I'd like CYC sailors to support this great Bay event if possible. Thus, advance planning will be required.
- July 20 - Session 1 ends. Awards for non-racing classes at 12pm. Classes resume at 1 pm. Also, CYC will host the second NBYA Laser regatta. VOLUNTEERS WANTED. We will need lots of race committee help to run this one day regatta.
- July 23 - Session 2 begins
- July 23-24 - CYC will be hosting the NBYA Girls clinic and Championship, also know as the Mary Rose Marshall Regatta. Girls in Optimists, Lasers and 420s should be encouraged to attend this great two day event. Opti sailors in Adventure Optimist may want to join in too. The 23rd is a clinic and the 24th is a race day - the NBYA Girl's Championship. VOLUNTEERS WANTED. Please contact Meg if you can help. We will need people to help unload on the 23rd, others to "man the parking lot" and many others to assist on the water on two race courses.
- August 8 - Marime Photography class with Onne van der Wal. 4:15-sunset (8 pm).
- August 17 - Session 2 ends. Awards at 5:30 for all classes, both sessions.
Other Information:
Pinnies- All sailors in CYC racing classes, including green fleet optimist, will be required to have a CYC pinny that will be worn at all regattas. (Pinnies are worn over life jackets.) The pinnies are the property of CYC and will be distributed on the first day of class. A $25 deposit is required to receive a pinny. Please send your sailor with $25 to the first class, or see your sailor's instructor and you can pick up the pinny for your child(ren). Deposits will be refunded when the pinnies are returned at the end of the season. (Kids may keep the pinnies, but then the deposit will obviously not be refunded.)
Pinnies will make the sailors easier to locate at NBYA events and will help to foster a team feeling.
CYC Boat Stickers- Sailors who bring their own boat to the club to sail in the junior sailing program will be given a sticker to put on their boats. Jr. sailing boats MUST have these stickers on the stern. If a boat does not have a visible CYC sticker, you will be charged for summer storage as per the CYC bluebook.
Private Lessons - Private lessons are available. Lessons are $60/hour with a two hour minimum. Add $10/hour for each additional child up to 4 that is included in the lesson. All private lessons are scheduled by the Program Director, Meg Myles: Mgaillard@aol.com
Adult Lessons - CYC offers lessons to adults. Contact Meg Myles to schedule a lesson, or a series of lessons.
